They all lived together with a girl angel on a cloud. The girl angel had gone off on a mission for God and left the bear in charge of the cloud while she was gone.
That afternoon, the cat angel heard a meow for help from down on Earth. A cat was in trouble! He peered down from the cloud. He saw that the cat was trapped in a building that had collapsed, and its tail was caught under a fallen dresser so that it couldn't escape.
He told the bear angel he was going to go down and rescue the cat from the building. The bear angel flapped her wings a little and frowned. "I don't think I should let you go by yourself," she told the cat angel. "I'll go with you." So they went to Earth to rescue the cat and left the dog angel on the cloud all by herself.
The dog angel peered down and watched the cat angel and the bear angel rescuing the cat from the building. The bear angel lifted the dresser and the cat angel appeared to the cat as a glowing feline light, leading the cat out of the building to safety.
The dog angel clapped her paws and wished she could have been there too to help. She wanted to rescue someone.
Then the dog angel heard a dog barking for help. It was tied up in a yard and three teenagers were teasing it, hitting it and then getting out of reach before it could bite them. The dog angel waited till the bear and cat angels had returned from their successful rescue mission, and then showed them the dog.
The bear angel shook her head. "We can't go rescue that dog, I'm sorry. There's humans involved and we aren't allowed to rescue animals from humans without a human angel to help us."
The dog angel said, "But, you let him rescue the cat! I want to rescue that dog. He needs me," and she whined. But the bear angel was firm. "No, you can't. I am in charge and I said so."
The bear angel was not used to being in charge, but she took it seriously. Well, the dog angel decided the bear angel was wrong, that all she had to do was make sure the humans didn't see her and it would be ok. So she sneaked off the cloud and down to Earth to where the dog was.
The dog angel went invisible and made the chain break so that the dog got free. The teenagers ran but the dog caught one of them and bit his arm so hard it bled. The dog angel watched, very worried, as the dog realized it had gone too far and ran home and hid behind its house.
The dog angel sneaked back to the cloud and the bear angel and cat angel didn't realize she had even been gone. A few days went by uneventfully, and then the girl angel returned from her mission.
First she hugged the bear angel, and told her how good she'd been, and how grateful she was that she'd taken such good care of the cloud while she was gone.
Then she hugged the cat angel, and told him how proud she was of him for rescuing the cat from the collapsing building on Earth.
Then she looked at the dog angel. "You," she told her, "sneaked out while I was gone and went to Earth, didn't you?" The bear and cat angels looked surprised. The dog angel hung her head. "Yes...."
"You should not have done that," the girl angel said sadly. "Look what happened..." She waved a hand and the dog angel saw. The dog whose chain she had broken had been taken from its home and killed because it had bitten the teenager so hard.
The dog angel cried, feeling sad. "But I was trying to help it... it asked for help..."
The girl angel smiled sadly. "I know you meant to help. And it will be okay... look. I brought us a new friend." Out from under her wing she brought a bag, which she opened, and out flew a dog angel... it was the very dog that had been chained - now with black and white spotted wings and a metallic blue halo. It barked happily to the dog angel and she licked its face.
So the girl angel and the cat angel and the bear angel and the two dog angels lived happily ever after on the cloud.
